Float display ideas

Post by Gudgeon Basher »

Afternoon all

I was wondering how you all display your floats as I'm looking for a way to show mine off better but I still want to have access to them so that I can use them as and when required.

My old nan used to use something I think was called oasis for her dried flower displays I wondered if this may be an idea worth looking into but thought I would see if someone here has a better option first.

Hopefully I have posted this in the correct section, if not could the bailiffs please move it to somewhere more relevant.

Regards as always

ImageThis is a cosmetic brush holder readily available on a certain site for a couple of quid. They come in many sizes and shapes and work a treat.
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

Thanks Fredline

Stunning floats, I've not seen any like these before I'm also starting to question the wisdom of starting this thread as it may just end up as an enormous float wish/shopping list for me.

Great idea with the brush holder though I would never have thought of that.

I must admit to having seen your 3D frames and I am definitely going to steal your idea for some floats that are just too nice to use and risk losing.

Also got to say the naiads are well let's just say

I had a very nice Secret Santa suprise last Christmas, a parcel from one of the forums finest floatmaking artisans ….. I shall give no names , but a
“ Mr Crabtree “ image says it all.

I could not bring myself to use such a collection, as to lose one would cause me untold angst… therefore I had to decide how to display the floats to best advantage.. I came up with this… I have posted it before but cannot seem to find it, so here it is again.

Paul F and OMR thanks for sharing your wonderful float frames they both look great and I will definitely be making up a couple of these myself for when my latest float purchases arrive in a couple of days :Beg: as these too contain some floats by the same maker that OMR was hinting at.

What I would really like though is for a display idea for other floats that although still special and worthy of being on display will still get picked up and used, most likely as tree decorations with my casting if I'm honest :Hahaha:

Thanks for all your replys thus far though I have really enjoyed drooling over the photos which are the equivalent of float porn to this old fisherman. :eyebrow:

The floats are all Homers, a Thames style with a cork body around a hollow celluloid stem. The line is stopped with a bone plug that is usually missing. Half of the floats shown have a replacement plug made for me by a friend who makes scale models of Panzer tanks.

Are the bone plugs always white/uncolored or have you seen other colours too?
