Inspired by the Stonze products I decided to make my own and got down on my hand and knees on my gravel drive which is flinty gravel.
It is quite common to find pieces which have naturally occurring small holes in and having snipped off one end of a swivel I managed to super glue the rest of it into the stone. Hey presto a homemade version for no cost.

I never thought of that Snape, now that is what I call traditionalism, albeit the only Stonze I have tried up until now is the ginger wine.

I did think, a while back, of using a Dremmel type tool and drilling out a cavity just big enough for aralditing in a swivel. But as the waters I fish do not really have pebbles on the bottom, I decided against it.

I mostly use them for barbel fishing although where I fish there isn't a lot of pressure so I doubt the fish recognise weights.
I found the flinty pebbles to be impossible drill with my home Black and Decker.

Yes, perfect for Barbel fishing. I was thinking perhaps the stone like attachment might work. Although it sounds you've tried so to find one with a hole it is then.

I have experimented extensively with pebbles for weights, distributed amongst DSC chums as 'Harrytrax Stonz' weights, and I can tell you for sure, the hardest part of the operation is drilling a hole in a pebble.

I broke at least a dozen drill bits, and ended up buying specialist ones from a jewellers supply shop, and even thise didnt work properly.

In the end, I gave up. It wasnt worth the effort, time and money required.

I found the same. Gravel hasn't been around as a lump for several million years for nothing!
Quite a few flinty gravels have natural holes though.

Wrap a couple of turns of unscented dental or boilie floss round; slip-knot; superglue, loop et voila!
Also, be it noted that five twopenny bits (with lots of surface area to glue them together) weigh about 36g; that's 10p - how much is a 36g lead? Which would you sooner "dump" when Cypry hits the weed?
