I found this advert in an old Anglers News from 1953. According to the ad every rod was "tested and autographed by Richard Walker before sale". Of course they were. It is still a great advert though.

Very interesting to see that they gave a test curve for them had thought that was a modern thing.
Thanks for posting Fred :Hat:

As well as highlighting the T/C it also mentions the length and that is 10’ - I always presumed the MKIV’s were 10’ 2”. With regards the signature I have some early (Ealing) MKIV’s and none of them appear to have a one off signature.

Great advertisement Fred. Thanks for the post.

If I recall correctly the early rods were sent to Dick for final approval and signing, but I don't think it was long before they switched to transfer signatures.

Apparently the first two batches were sent to Walker to be hand signed before they created the decal. I've no idea how many rods constituted a batch.

When did the Mark 1V standard become 10’ 2”?

I don't think that the Mark IV standard did become 10' 2"! There is often a variation in length due to ferrule and/or rubber button differences, but I always thought that the correct length was 10 feet, give or take an inch! :Hahaha:

Out of interest what month of 1953 was that advert featured?
