hand carved and kolrossed disgorgers.

Given the rather dim weather today i decided to carve a few hook disgorgers. I like to use hazel as the pith in the middle means i do not have to drill at all just use a bit of wire to push down the middle,I have carved these for years,my oldest being the fish handled one pictured below which i carved circa 2000.
The method of decoration is called kolrossing, basically the design is incised with a scalpel like tool and then a powder rubbed into the cuts,in this case cinamon as i like the sepia tones, next the item is oiled,i use walnut oil as it never goes rancid and when it cures provides a varnish like finish, after applying the oil i burnish the surface so as to close the cuts thus keeping the design visible ,kolrossed items can still be bright after a millenium as shown on much treen in scandinavian museums.

Very nice, lot of work in them..... but if they were in my tackle box they would be lost within ten mins of arriving.I am the worlds worst for losing disgorgers, mine all have bits of dayglow tape around them !
I have seen some of your work on Flikr, very impressive!

hello paul! good to see you,yep used to do the bushcraft forums, still do a lot of bush stuff but its just part of daily life now doesn't seem out of the ordinary,we even light the wood burner by flint and steel daily, keeps the skills sharp!i think there is a natural progression from bushcraft to olden days living ,from surviving to thriving so to speak.
