Hemp Seed
What is the best way to cook/prepare hemp seed for loose feed and at one point would you add any flavouring like spices if you were to use them.

Re: Hemp Seed
I just put the seeds in a wide mouth thermos flask and pour boiling water over them and leave overnight. Works a treat and no smell.
For larger batches I have a plug in electric hob in a shed and boil it up in a big old pan for abut 30 minutes..
I never add any flavours etc so not sure on that one but if it was a powder like chilli I would just add it to the hemp once the water has been drained and mix well.
Don't use a decent pan in the kitchen if you ever want your wife to speak to you again as it will ruin the pan and stink out the house!

Re: Hemp Seed
Slow cooker, a few pounds from a charity shop, equal amounts of hemp and hot water, a heap teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda per pint of water added, three hours on medium heat. When cooked add a heap tablespoon of salt per pint of water added at the start and any flavouring you want, chillier is often used but be careful if attending a call of nature after handling the bait. Store in a man airtight tub when still boiling hot a d fill to the top even if that means adding some boiling water, that will stop it going off. If leaving for more than a week drain and freeze in batches.

Re: Hemp Seed
with cooking as above... flavouring and the world is your oyster... however Chiili flakes are a great additive as are other spices.... try a few flavoured batches and see what works... as a long time user of chilli hemp for carp fishing I can attest to it's pulling power it really does get them grubbing around

Re: Hemp Seed
a good plan if SWMBO is averse to the smell of cooking hemp.... although the Thermos flask method solves the problem

Re: Hemp Seed
I agree; Thermos flask technique if organised and tinned as a back-up.....

Re: Hemp Seed
Also buy in bulk from a pet shop.
I once had a 25kg sack of the stuff which worked out surprisingly cheap.
