Needed a bit of work to get them running right, but now ready to try them out.

As these reels were originally sold by Sowerbutts i will pair them with a couple of Sowerbutts Ru Spin rods.

They look like quality reels, please let us know how you get on with them.

I have an RU, in a wooden box, picked it up a few years back, I didn't realise it had such a pedigree.

Fine examples of the beautiful French engineering oft' found in vintage reels. A great find.

They look great Lee. I almost bought a Ru (if memory serves it was a Mer) a few years ago. However, I hadn't discovered this excellent site back then and bottled it because I failed to find out anything about the maker.

I'd love top hear how they fish.

Lovely looking things, very sculptural, little works of art. Would nice to see them on a rod in-situ with a nice big perch lay along side. Thanks for showing us... :Hat:

The Ru-Mer is a Salt water reel and a lot bigger than the Sport.

The Ru Reels were retailed here in the UK by Sowerbutts.

Thanks for that Lee. Don’t know why the Mer name didn’t jump out at me at the time.

Probably a good job I did bottle it. So far I’ve not felt tempted to try traditional tackle for my bass fishing. When I cover 2-3 miles of coast, casting and retrieving a lure every 10 yards or so in a 4-6 hour session, lightness really does matter!
