Octafloat Deluxe - some questions please

I have the opportunity to purchase an 11 foot, 3-piece Octafloat Deluxe rod. The rod is in top condition - lightly used if at all and really all I need to do is re-wrap new guides. The intermediate wraps are perfect and the cane is in great shape and straight. Ferrules have small speckled tarnish marks but the fit is tight. The guides are rusted in places so I'll remove them and re-wrap a nice new set of high bells in the yellow/ black jasper thread and she'll be good to go. What are these rods like? I'd likely use it on small ponds with 6lb line for carp up to 12 pounds. I eagerly await your feedback chaps

I use the standard model. I think the Octofloat should be ideal for your fishing. I find mine a bit tip heavy, not a rod to hold for a complete session. Best, Bobby

Is it black/gold Jasper that's on the rod at present? If so you might find its black/white under the old varnish. :Hat:

I like Octofloats and they are so popular now that the price has gone through the roof lately in the UK. They are a general all round rod from the time when nobody really fished for carp outside of a few specialist anglers.

But I don't consider them the right rod for such large carp. 5 lb line is the most they are going to be happy with and I doubt you'd get a 12lb. carp in with that. It sort of depends on the carp I suppose but a 12lb. er can take some stopping.

I use one fairly regularly. I'd agree with Nobby, not ideal for carp that large. I've caught the up to 6 or 7lb on mine but wouldn't want anything bigger.

Lovely rods; perfect for tench, bream, chub and small carp. Not sure I'd want to try hitting and holding a twelve pounder though, might be OK in a reservoir with no snags or weed!

Here's a 6lb.er pulling hard.

OK, the rod has a bit more to give.......but a 12lb.er........???? I'm not so sure.

I didn't weigh the fish...it might go more than 6??
