I always thought that the USA population per se was 99% non- natives. Funny expression that, non native! Anyways, whoever they be it sounds like the medieval practice that occurred in Isaac Walton's times.

I understand and have similar feelings. They are a bigger drain on all our resources than just poaching fish unfortunately; and lately some have become a danger to our lives and limbs.

Yes, that is true; but let’s just say most of the population came here with the proper papers and became citizens and leave it at that.

well traditionally English people Londoners in particular used to and still do eat jellied Eels, in which case as I am a Londener I would rather just pop out and buy some rather than eat what I had caught and so they are to live long and free to be caught again hopefully much bigger, I sincerely hope that everyone else see's the sense in returning fish however I do understand and I am no angel and have eaten fish I caught when camping with friends some thirty seven years ago in those days if it swam flew or ran it was indeed fair game and on the menu, times changed and so did I.

Probably twenty years ago, I used to fish the Great Ouse at Ely for winter Roach. At that time they were plentiful, in fact I caught one of the two 2lb roach that I have ever caught while fishing their. I never caught an eel of any note, bootlaces mainly, but what a winter roach venue it was then!

The Great Ouse at Ely is a super place to fish with really mixed bags. Nice to see eels are present.

A good friend, sadly passed was a very enthusiastic eel angler. He would fish from Friday afternoon till as late as he could on sunday (work next day)Through most of the summer. This was too much for some of his lady friends who would often go back to their parents house through lack of seeing him.

He did well with eels to over 5 pounds. My pb is still a 3 pounder that i caught when fishing with him. There were and probably still are clubs/groups that specialise in them.National Anguilla club,British Eel Anglers Club and The Eel Study Group come to mind. Each published their magazines and newsletters.

Conservation was and still is a key word.Apparently a 5 pound eel can be many many years old!.
