Lovely job Jeremy, if it works half as good as it looks you will be over the moon. That first outing will no doubt bring all sorts of fears to mind but after the first few fish your confidence in the rod will grow and grow.

I half expected my first Greenheart tipped float rod to bust on the first fish but after a few decent roach I was ready for a tench no problem and the same feelings came over me with my Sharpes of Aberdeen Greenheart spinning rod but soon vanished after I used it for freelining crust and caught a few ide around the 3lb mark and seeing it bend almost double.

Wal.

Thanks Wal, that's a great compliment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the restoration process, probably as much as I enjoy fishing!
I only paid 99p for the fly rod plus postage so it's been a very worthwhile endeavour.
I'd like to do a split cane rod next time, I have an Octofloat so maybe something a bit heavier? I would like a split cane fly rod as well as I enjoy both course and fly fishing and can do both on my local River the Derwent here in Matlock.
The rod I've just restored seems to have a lovely slow action, I put a line through it prior to stripping it down so with new rings and tightened ferrules it should be even nicer in use.
I may try for Grayling on it's first outing, I'll let you know how I get on.
Again many thanks for your kind compliments.
Jeremy.
