Made a new net this afternoon

Post by OrangeJonny »

Merry Christmas chaps

Haven't really been on the forum much for the last few months.

It's been a busy year for me, with many things keeping me away from the water (such as getting married!)

However with a bit of time off this Christmas I thought I'd do something I've been wanting to have a go at for a while and make a net.

I picked up some ash this morning and butchered a modern net for the mesh. I have no workshop space until I rebuild my old wash house so it was all done in the back garden with some drain pipe and a steam cleaner. The results were better than I expected!

Ah! That was last years Christmas present to myself; lie Nielsen carcass, tenon and dovetail saws. They're lovely.

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Thanks everyone.

I've had the spreader for a few weeks but not had the time. I've never steam bent ash before so it was a steep learning curve. I was a bit slow with clamping up at the first time and managed to snap the first one. Second one went fine. To be honest I didn't get started on the second strip until gone 3pm. I was putting the net on by 6pm. It all went pretty quickly.

I wasn't expecting the drain pipe to melt as much as it did though!

I'm out on the river Bain with my brother on Thursday so hopefully I'll christen it with a nice chub.
