Hi,
I'm looking to make some poppers for summer chubbing but I'm having some problems creating the hollow 'nose'.
Has anybody any suggestions?

one idea would be to drill a hole almost as large as the diameter of the plug in a round dowel,
then you have 2 noses with one shot, or you use a gouge

depending on the tools you have access to ,a dremel (any multi-tool) makes things easy as they usually come with accesseries one of which would be a drum sanding tool wich are for holding small round bands of abrasive paper .another option is too take a penny ot two pence or coin of choice draw the appropiate curve then using a Junior hacksaw cut down too the scribed line every few millimetres apart (toothcombing) then around the curved scribed line .then sand smooth.by cutting the verticle toothcombing slits you avoid stressing the material which might happen if you go strait in to cut out the curved scribed line in one go.

i take it your using balsa ,although styrofoam most of the above should be ok but a hot wire cutter would be the idea method of cutting or a tube cutter used to cut out the plug could be used to cut out the concave face .simular to as paddex says

depending on the kind of "nose" you're looking for
a gouge (or Dremel) would be better for this kind

A rat tail file would do the job perfectly.

oh yes, I remember your popper Scott, absolutely perfect,
how do you call your tool for hollowing out the "nose"?
I have a set of those for linocuts, mine are a bit fragile for harder woods

We just call them 'lino cutters' Paddex, that wood was quite soft, hazel as I recall..
