Reduce, re-use, recycle, as traditional as can be!
Very nice Leigh.
Very nice Leigh.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Re: My Budget Rod Rests
Very nice, Leigh! I do like them.
Perhaps they are more Trad than cane? Did they actually have cane bank sticks back in the 50s / 60s, or is it just something we have invented to go with the look?
While I think cane one look great I don't think I'll get any. That's going too far that is. But then I said that about cane nets and I have one of those now!

I have the pole, but I'm lacking the ash hoop.
I was contemplating turning a few broken rod sections into rests the other day...

Nice one I love the recycling, strong and functional.

Very nice indeed Leigh, I like the idea of recycling from that era.
I bought a job lot of cane rods locally and when I got them home they aren't worth restoring but one is an 8' sea rod in 2 pieces so that's my landing net handle and the others will be made into bank sticks. I'm trying to source the 3/8 BSF brass ends for the landing net pole and rod rest but struggling on the tinterweb, any ideas chaps?
A Bay search came up with these but they are few and far between http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landing-net-B ... 1123672194

Contact that seller directly...that's Peter Johnston of Olivers Rods and he always has them in stock, just doesn't bother listing them all the time.
