A simple Catapult
Over in the wood a couple of weeks back I saw a nice bit of wood for a catapult. I've always enjoyed making thumbsticks, rod rests and stuff out of it but this time I thought I'd try a catapult instead.
I used the grinder after marking along my fingers with a pencil to make the thing a bit more erganomic.
I'm undecided as to whether or not to varnish it.
I've made a black leather pouch out of an old handbag of Mrs Kingfisher's and bought some top quality catapult elastic from ebay.
I hope you like it.

Very nice Kingfisher - looks great as it is without varnishing

Danish oil. Let it soak in and it'll give a good weatherproof coating. After that the oil from your own skin will soak in over the years and give it that special look eventually.

Thanks for the kind words gents. I think I'll take your advice and use Danish Oil on it.
Many thanks for the advice.

Might have to wait until the Wildie Weekend, think I'm going to be a bit preoccupied with these Cumbrian river lumps this spring...Kingfisher wrote:Thanks Scott, when are you coming to catch my trout?

That's looking very nice Kingfisher. There really is something quite special wandering round in the woods and seeing a stick or piece of wood and having an Excalibur moment!
