got some bamboo tube and I've cut to the desired length.... what's the best way of removing the excess pith in the tube as the walls are very thick at the mo....?
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

Re: Another Bamboo float tube
As a newbie I stumble across old threads occassionally and this is great, I love making my own stuff, so once I have all those rings whipped on, goose quills turned into floats I shall be making a float tube...blimey there's hardly enough time to go fishing !!!!

Never tried that way, only the top bit though to take the cork bung, if I was to make the bamboo walls thinner i'd get a long drill bit and wrap sandpaper round itBluelabel wrote:got some bamboo tube and I've cut to the desired length.... what's the best way of removing the excess pith in the tube as the walls are very thick at the mo....?
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Bluelabel, have you got access to a drum sander that would be your easiest and quickest way of removing the excess from inside the tube or if you have a lathe turn a piece of wood just smaller than the inside diameter and wrap some double sided tape around it at an angle then wrap some course sand paper around that so you now have a rubbing down tool for the tubes, place this in the lathe/drill and insert the tube and remove as much as needed.

Unfortunately I don't have access to any tooling...

Bluelabel,
in that case get some double sided tape and 12" of broomhandle put the double sided tape on it and then wrap some sand paper around it,don't put any end caps on yet so you can get to both ends of the tube,
then while your watching tv you can be playing with your tube and handle(oooops).
