The water level has been dropped at Mapperley for repairs.
Here are a couple of pictures that may be of interest. They were posted on Facebook by John Reg Hart - they are not my pictures.

The first is the famous peg 1

The last is the famous dam wall

Wow great pictures , I was just reading about mapperley and good old Albert, their is a picture of one of the reels he used which seems to be a four inch pop,
Albert secured fishing for himself and afew mates after he saw a child in difficulty in the water, he promptly jumped in and saved said child who turned out to belong to one of the estate managers!
Albert was a modest chap and by all acounts a lovely bloke.

Thanks for sharing the images chaps!

It's on my list this summer, when I will give the new cane an outing. If anyone else fancies a trip, mail me and we can make some plans? May-July I would suggest?

Shaun,
Never seen the fish in Walkers, was it in the back?
What was the Buckley fish that was on display in Wollaton Hall Museum? (Dark Night Rises for non Midlanders!) I have a photo of my son stood in front of it somewhere, will try to find it.
One of my biggest disappointments was a visit to London Zoo on a school trip, running from the car park into the aquarium to see Clarrisa.....only to be told she died a few years before!

No, the fish was in the shop on the left wall as you walk in above where the main game counter is now. It was probably around 83'ish I guess when the family came and fetched it back. The one in Wollaton Hall is the copy of it.
