That's OK, provided the ferrules are sound and tight, after all the cane is full length and straight. It needs new rings and I'd worry why they are all so rusty and the silk so rotten , but it looks sound.
That might need no more than a rings, whip and varnish after stripping down. Or it might need a lot more.....but it's all do-able.
You may be sure folk on here, and elsewhere, are already considering bidding on that and hoping that not too many others spot it!

Rebuild now complete. I had a lot of problems sealing the thread. All sorted now thanks to you guys. I just need an excuse to go and use it.
Nothing special but a lot better than it was. It is/was never going to be perfect. The cane looks about 10 shades lighter than it was and the whipping is no longer transparent, so it will do for me.
I forgot to mention. Being a bit ham fisted I broke the tip ring (not original anyway). However, with a bit of judicious use the soldering iron, I seem to have fixed it. The first time I have tried it. I will now set about the agate butt ring on my Jack Harrigan fibreglass carp rod, which is also in two pieces.

Not much of the goldenrod thread left. The photos are of my third attempt. It is pretty frustrating getting it finished and not knowing if it is going to work until you try varnishing it.

Well you might like to now that I, fool that I am, bought this and as a first attempt in saving history its coming along OK
Strip down revealed rings held on with sellotape and some water stain and lots of 'set' in all directions and bits.
After consideration and understanding my own ability I have decided to not restore as new but keep some of its character.
I have gone for golden rod whippings tipped in black as this was the original scheme fitted a new ferrule but could do with a bit of advice.
Does the lucky strike have two non lined rings or one lined ring on the butt section?
How do you stop getting little gaps in the wrapping as the grade A covers the bottom of the leg.The step in the new H&H rings is deeper than the thickness of the tread and its very difficult to complete without slight gaps.
Is there a solution, in hindsight I should have gone for a thicker thread,but as some of the rings are spot on I will keep trying as after all I am more focused on getting fishing rather than perfection.
Any thoughts ?
