Reading through this thread made me realise that I must relly get my act together and organise my books. I started off with all my books in an order..Fishing, Birds and wildlife, Collecting, local history etc, but now they are in many many piles like leaning towers of Pisa. The trouble with me is I see so many cheap books at the bootfairs that I buy any reference types that may be usefull at some point. OCD is the story of my life not just with books but with collectables, fishing tackle, old local bottles and on and on and on.

Well I have a bookcase for fishing and one for outdoor books, survival, camping etc. My books are ordered by author, eg Yates books together, Gierach together, BB together.... Then Chris Yates goes and throws a spanner in the works by bringing out Nightwalk, where to put it? With the other Yates and dilute the purity of my fishing only case? Or split it from the other Yates? I lose sleep over this!

At home I have a non-fiction shelves and fiction shelves. Authors are grouped together on each, and arranged by preference not alphabetical order.

My sister and I share our books, particularly fiction books. Her arrangement drives me insane. Because she goes in height order books by the same person are never next to each other and an age to find. :Hair out:

Fishing books by author.
Species specific, collectors books, cook books and British wildlife elsewhere in the shelf space.
Apart from a couple of Winston Churchill books, everything else goes straight in the charity box.

You chaps have an order? Guess my book shelfs are more haphazard, mind means I often re read books just because they work their way to the front.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

Mine are left to right in the order in which I read them ... and if I re-read one it gets moved to the right again.
