In my opinion the period between the wars Youngs and Allcocks were producing the best they ever did. Excellent quality reels using the best of materials.
After ww2 the quality certainly dropped (thats a long story, why) I do not know if you are intending to collect coarse, sea or game but simply, if it has no brass parts then it was made cheaply until long after ww2 with youngs but even then, not for me.
BUT
Spend on books before you buy. Learn the area you intend to collect thoroughly before you spend your pension fund.
What breed of Angler are you ? I could help more.
