Not a traditional quote by an Angling writer, but one that has always made me smile was overheard from a youngish bloke on a club lake several years ago.

He was there with his wife or girlfriend and it was obviously her first time fishing. He rigged up a float rod for her, demonstrated how to cast, baited up (a process which produced an "ugh!" as presumably he was using maggots or worm), the tackle was flicked out, the rod placed in the rests and they sat down to wait.

After a few minutes she said “But there’s nothing happening” To which her partner laconically replied “That’s exactly the point”.

In the heat of noonday I have cruised in a punt upon the surface of that fathomless pool,

Skill or patience on my part will ever bring such cunning monsters to the bank.
ah yes when watching APFA Bernard Cribbins narrates it well
It's not Bernard that reads the passages from books and poems though, is it?
Isn't it Chris Sandford? :geek:

Doe's anyone know which book it's from.

Sounds like the allotment I used to have a few years ago! :hahaha:

I didn't think Bernard did the quotes as the voice does sound sifferent to the rest of the narrative, but we are led to believe bernard did all of it so I kind of took it as a given.

I think it's in the end credits of each episode. I'll have to have a look tonight...

It was Chris Sandford that read the quotes on APFA.
