I couldn't agree more Snape, this is my style of fishing.

Back in the 50/60s, we use to make a sliding float for Pike fishing called the Dogs Knob and we used them on the North Met ( Lea Navigation side ) where the water was deep.

These were also used in a rig we fishind at distance, a 1ozs Arsley lead, was tread on the reel line, then a split shot or stop knot, then the Dogs Knob float, then a split shot, about 3ft from the shot a size 2/4 hook, hidden inside a lump of floating Crust Floating.

It meant on waters like the Hollow Ponds or Eagle Pond we could cast out far greater distances than with a single bit of crust.

Now of course it would be a controller float and dog Biscuit.

Nothing is new in fishing, it goes in circles and it's revisited and perfected.
