I just describe the Trudex as either Black or grey. The black crinkle or crackle finish known from the Rapidex is actually part of the paint finish , unlike the dimples we see on the Trudex .

There now work that one out.

I've had Trudexes with a black painted foot, Wal. I had the idea that the chrome foot came in later in just the last few years of production. That might have been from going by images in the Allcock Angler's Guides. I can't check until I get new glasses.

I think the dimples are first cut into the casting moulds ( molds?) so they appear on the reel casting as little bumps.

Didn't Fred Crouch have a nightmare trying to replicate it when the old moulds finally wore out? I'm sure I read that on here somewhere.....?

Every Trudex I have seen has had a black foot Nobby, the only chrome feet i have seen are on the silver Rapidex and of course the Aerials. Although I noticed recently that some of the 3 3/4" Aerials had black painted feet too, the same Mazak casting but not chromed.
I think the Fred Crouch story was, the mould was somehow broken and it was too difficult to reproduce so he had the backplates for his reels turned on a lathe.

Just when you think there's some order in the world.........there's vintage fishing tackle where they just made it up as they went along.
