I've been in this workshop a few times, Studley, about thirty minutes drive from my house. The next time I will have to take this photo with me Martin, I'm sure Gary will fill me in with all the details and I'm sure you know once you start Gary talking about reels or old tackle it can last at least a couple of hours. His office for me is like Aladdin’s Cave.

I can recommend the Speedia but then again it's the only centrepin I've used in recent years and it's also the only one I've used for carp. In the past I used a 'Leeds' type centrepin for trotting on the Trent and Witham but after asking others for advice on this same subject a few years ago the wide drum Speedia seemed to be held in high regard.

My first carp caught using the reel wasn't exactly what I'd expected.

Speedias are great. They're pretty cheep, really well made reels. Also pretty rugged. Think garry mills does spares for them as well.

Here is the only centrepin I own. I don't use it much but when I do it's very enjoyable. It's not a fast spinner so I can handle it quite well without bird nests.

Can anyone tell me anything about it? Is it modern??

Nice one JT. I've given it a cleanup and oiled the spindle and it runs like a dream now. I'm going to be brave today and see if I can catch a fish on it. I think I might visit the River Hamble and try for a Grayling today.................

It's a StrikeRight Hydraflow, I reckon - from the 1960s.
