I think that a 5lb chub would have been a very big fish when these rods were made - in 1983 Trefor West was talking about a big chub at 4lb 14oz in the book "Top Ten"!

Your a much braver man than me

I would just send that naughty MK4 to Wal, to firstly preserve my sanity, and secondly to save my ailing eyesight

To put your mind at rest Harry I have just finished 172 intermediate whippings on a James MkIV Avon tip section, it took me 5 days on and of. I hope this helps!
Just got to apply a couple of coats of varnish now....
