That threw me for a while; the first photo appears to show the railway heading away from the river, which would suggest he's fishing below the bridge at Fiddler's East, whereas the landing shot shows it heading towards the river, suggesting above the bridge (Watersmeet). Then I realised the first photo has been mirrored (rod in left hand) whereas in the second he's holding it in the right hand. The top photo is also mirrored.

Quite correct GOS. Wasn't worth me asking Mark to turn some over as it didn't affect the overall interest

Sorry - didn't mean to cause trouble! I agree it matters little, and only mentioned it because the first picture of Walker playing the barbel looked suspiciously like Fiddlers, not the Parlour.

One of my favourite stories in Walker's book 'No Need to Lie' - I read the book every year at the beginning of June and have done so since 1968 (I think when I got my own copy). Walker relates I think that the Editor of Angling Times suggested he should lose the first round, win the second round by a small margin and catch a specimen fish in the third and final round. Walker replied I believe that he saw no problem in achieving the required result for round 1.

Great photos Mike - thank you for sharing them. I cannot get enough of vintage angling photos, there are so few to view on the internet. TFF must be leading the way in this respect, thanks to the generosity of contributors.
Well done to JB too for adding an extract from his book.
