Only a section of the tip is split cane, the rest appears to be whole cane of a slender nature. I suspect that this helps with the weight.

Yes sorry Rich, I meant the whole cane sections are sometimes drilled through and bored out to create a lighter section but only removing some of the weaker fibres on the inside. The better Roach pole makers did it to get the weight down without sacrificing strength.
Your rod looks very much like a Hardy Sheffield style rod.
