Vole wrote:"Pleasing in appearance, and even more so in disappearance", wasn't it? (Sheringham, on a favourite float).
Something like that, as mis-quoted in my signature below

My old man on losing a big salmon years back on the Spey having played it for 55 minutes....."Well if you want it that much....bloody have it!!!"....the rod was then launched into the river....so funny at the time and still brings a smile when mentioned over a pint.

I don't have the book to hand and perhaps surprising that it's not Yates but Walker. The one that goes something like:

We began our long vigil, lost in a quiet world of green, grey and gold.

On September 12th, 1952, Peter Thomas and I again went to Redmire.

The hairs on the back of my neck tingle whenever I read that sentence in No Need to Lie.

I do like the following by BB from Confessions of a Carp Fisher, talking about Redmire Pool.

In the heat of noonday I have cruised in a punt upon the surface of that fathomless pool,
And looked far down among waving weed cables at broad netted backs stirring there.
In those mysterious depths. I have looked and marveled and been made to feel that no
Skill or patience on my part will ever bring such cunning monsters to the bank.

Superb,one of my favorites also....

"Our long vigil had begun, it continued until daybreak, and after.
The sun rose deep orange; its beams making the lake steam, nothing moved.
I was lost in a quiet world of grey, green and gold".
