Great stuff.

I did something similar a couple of years back. Still going strong.

Very satisfying, the feeling when it starts to bend

Lovely Job Neil!
Simple yet ingenious!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Well done. It looks great!

I was down my allotment the other day looking at the canes and thinking about making something similar. I planned on using steam though to heat the cane. Do you think that would work?

Any heat source should do, I'd be careful about drying it afterwards though in case it splits if it dries too fast.

Do you think that's more likely with steam? Perhaps I'll have a dig around in my Granddad's shed for a heat gun if you think so. I'm sure I've seen one somewhere.

You know, I've been thinking about doing this for ages. But with precious few days off I've been putting it off. This thread has really inspired me to give it a go.

I have a net mesh (somewhere) that is triangular in shape. I wonder if you could put just two bends in the cane to make a triangle or if that would involve bending the cane too far.

great thread ,and its given me another project ,and finally found a use for this .

Image

it was supposed to be used a few years ago to adorn a walking staff ,but I chose a different head and this one has languished in a draw awaiting me to make another staff ,I have some stales ready that i'd cut a few years ago and should be well seasoned now .

Image

but ,I think I might use the thumb grip head ,as a part of a landing net head ,and I think I might still have a couple of pieces of bamboo lengths laying around ,one should be suitable for bending into a hoop .

Image

looks like i'll have to buy a heat gun and some ⅜" bolts ,and a net and i'll be in business .
I try to be funny... but sometimes I merely look it! Steve

Nicely done that man :Hat: might have ago at one of those.

Fantastic. I can see quite a few of us rummaging round our sheds for bits of cane this weekend.
