Milward,s Fly rod ?
Can anyone help with the model name of a Milward,s rod i have just bought .
It looks to be a fly rod going by the reel and brass fittings on the handle.
The rod is 10ft 6in long, three piece split cane and not floppy like other fly rod,s
Lee.

Re: Milward,s Fly rod ?
There's nothing that matches it in my 1953 catalogue. The handle suggests that it's a salmon rod, but at 10 1/2 ft it's at the shorter end of salmon rod lengths.

Thanks for your help people.
Don,t really know what to do with the rod now, if i leave it as it is it won,t get used, i,m thinking of taking the pin,s out of the brass fittings move them the other way round and turn it into a course rod.
What would others do ?
Lee.

Re: Milward,s Fly rod ?
Have decided to turn this rod in to a course rod and use it, as seen in the pictures above the varnish was in a bit of a mess and the ring,s needed cleaning.
Going to pin the front sliding reel fitting and the rear band and leave the rear sliding band to move
It should make a nice 10 1/2 foot float or ledger rod, has a test curve of 1 1/4lb ish with a full through action.
Inters and varnish to finish

Looks good, 1 1/4 test and a through action sounds like it would be a nice user.

I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Ready to use.
Restored to the same as original using the original guides and black whipping and inters, apart from the reel fitting reversed so it can be used as a course rod.
Still got the green felt washer fitted to the rubber button
Original guides refitted

Looks as though it may have been designed as a salmon-fisher's "worming" rod, in which case it should have a "through" action, be able to cast soft baits a long way, and have enough meat in the butt to subdue anything, given enough water. Perfect for meat-rolling, I'd suspect - if I've guessed correctly. Lovely job, there!

Sounds like it would be good for barbel fishing to me. Looks a nice rod. We still don't know the model name though. Someone must know.
