Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Re: Eyes bigger than her belly
I've had a massive pike attach it's self to 4lb jack pike as I was playing it. Unfortunately the big one didn't get hooked and let go before I could scoop it into the landing net. Before she let go though she almost wrapped me around a tree and fought for a good 5 minutes. I think she was reluctant to loose her dinner. It was amazing how little the small fish was damaged. There was only a small rip in the tail fin and a single shallow tooth mark.

I think it more likely that those claws damaged the gill rakers.Mazza wrote:your saying it choked to death

The head looks like it belongs to something twice the size.
I'm wondering whether it has a big head or a small body. Perhaps the head reflects its age but the body doesn't match because the feeding's always been hard? Are there not enough small pike there for it to eat, perhaps?

It is indeed the case the only fish are Carp and Pike.Alaudacorax wrote:The head looks like it belongs to something twice the size.

On a slight tangent, but still related, I stumbled across this video of catfish taking pigeons from the bank somewhere in France. Astonishing stuff:
