Help with a Hardex

Post by Banksy »

I have a cute little Hardex reel, which I would like to use.
It will never replace my usual reels, but would be fun to use for the occasional unserious session.
There is a problem with the clutch, which when tightened up, goes from no drag at all, to fully locked.
From front to back there is a little brass locking screw, a brass adjuster screw with a handle, a small steel ?) washer, and the spool itself. The spindle has a slot in it, suggesting a washer or spring with a lug to engage in the slot?
Does anyone please have an exploded diagram, or the know-how to tell me what is missing?
At least, I hope something is missing, I can’t believe Hardy would make a reel with such a terrible clutch?

I think the drag arrangement is the same as the Altex.
So yes, you have a washer and a spring missing.
I thought I had a Hardex leaflet showing the arrangement but I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks for your replies! Nice to know that I am thinking along the right lines, at least. That’s a move forward for this mechanical numpty. 😁

Thank you Wal, you have sorted my problem!
I have an Altex which sounds like a bag of spanners it’s so
worn. But it does have all its bits present, and the brass spindle on both reels is identical, to my eyes.
The Altex washers fit the Hardex, anyway, so I shall borrow them for the occasional outing with the Hardex. The clutch does work, but is not as sweet as that of the Altex.

But if you see a post from me in future, asking where I can find some washers for an Altex, kindly remind me where they are!! 😀
