I cobbled together this 16’ cane roach pole from odds and ends accumulated over the years, to while away the time during the last lockdown.
The pole is plainly a piece of shed art, but is very usable, so I gave it a test run yesterday on the backwater at Penshurst, Kent.
I bagged 13 silvers, including a handsome 8 oz. rudd, and thought the pole fished quite well.
It is rather heavy, at 2lb.5oz, a professional piece would be at least half a pound lighter.
My poles saving grace is that it is nicely balanced and not top heavy.
The bottom section weighs 1lb. 5oz. The top three sections total a pound.
The pole fishes well and during my session, a pike around the 3lb mark took my bait on the drop.
The pole coped with this surprise quite well, but spoilt by the inevitable “bite off” at the net.
Regards Tom

Well done Sir... a lovely pole and a fine christening... the elastic system works rather well does it not...
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

Hi Aitch,
Yes, you are right about the elasticated tip.
Master pike hit my breadflake offering on the drop with some force and the elastic prevented an immediate smash. Final capture at the net after a couple of lively minutes was only prevented by the Esox dentistry.
Regards Tom.

That looks great
"Shed art" I like that. Some fine pieces of tackle have come out of the garden shed.

You are a craftsman Sir.
Not only does it look the part, it passed the
test run with flying colours.
I envy your skills.
