Well done Tel. The roach is a wonderful species that has been sadly ignored by yours truly. I really should do something about that sometime soon.

Re: I love winter roach
Nice fish, best looking species in my opinion, especially the old tidal Trent roach of 1lb plus with dark green backs, red fins and those golden spots on the cheeks. Remember catching then on creed wheat, stret pegging over gravels at Sutton on Trent. Used to take over 4 hours at times for the 1st bite, but then 30lbs was possible over the next 4.

What a fine Roach - great photo - can one beat the feeling of catching an intended species? Just - when your christening a new item of tackle or in your case tackles when catching your intended species - 4 new pieces as Wal said that’s a red letter day for sure.

Re: I love winter roach
I had a nice few hours on Saturday at a small water I know. Unusual for me to fish at the weekend, as I am retired and leave it to the working lads, but it was the only day with anything like a decent forecast. Anyway, arrived and there were the working lads in the 3 swims I had thought about, and they were all spinning for the pike which are in this little water. Undaunted, I found a swim and was using punched bread on an 18. Nothing for an hour and a half, then it poured down for about 20 minutes. Now about 1.30, and a shy bite. Missed. Awake now, and enthusiasm rekindled, I had a dozen or so nice little very shy biting roach, with the float shotted right down so it was just a dimple on the surface. Altogether making it a very enjoyable session.

A beautiful autumnal bounty ... now for winter after the solstice tonight !!!
