"The Wayfaring Tree" by BB

Post by Northern Eel »

ive just about finished reading "The Wayfaring Tree" by BB
& I need to recommend it to you all!

Its not a fishing book as such, its more of collection of thoughts & memories from BB's childhood & adult life during WW2, although there are some great parts about the authors fishing experiences as a child, including "Tom Pillmore, the walrus moustached tench fisher"
There are many great observations & thoughts on wildlife & life in general in the book, some naive & some ahead of their time, if you have read other BB books, you can actually see in this book where he gets his inspiration & ideas for books such as Brendon Chase, Wild Lone & The Little Grey Men.
Its like peering through a window into an era that no longer exists, a time when England was still a very rural & wild place & as usual BB's writing brings you back into history to a simpler iddylic time.

Its a great book for anyone interested in fishing, nature & wildlife, sadly it appears to be long out of print, but copies are available form the bay of e & also abebooks
"Chasing frothy bubbles while the world is full of troubles"

"Simple pleasures maybe, but very real ones, which seem all the more precious in these restless modern days."

'BB' Denys Watkins-Pitchford

Yes I agree, a delightful read.
The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

Looking forward to this read. Just bagged a 1st edition without DJ for £4.99 so it will make a good reader.

Haven't read this one yet but I've just ordered "The Whopper", so this one will be next in line. :Hat:

Not a fishing book, but I'm sure this will be of interest to a few here.
