I had two and half hours this morning down at Debden just off the M11 , lobbing at double s in and out of some very Pikey looking pools and a few a few deeper runs. Lovely part of the river. Mist off the water and ....
Not one take .....And I have to say I did wonder if there are any in there?
Any thoughts from my Roding fellow piscators?

Re: Spinning in Debden
you'll probably find very few pike in that area.... Debden has a high Eastern European contingent living there now...
That said when I pike fished it back in the 90's I used sprat deadbaits and caught a few.... not big tho.... biggest was about 7lbs

That's what I thought! Not the best for lure fishing for pike! The Rapalas are much much better and you can get them cheap off ebay! And the medium/big plastic shads are also good! The pike were probably there but were just not interested with the old Shakespear and have acquired a taste for the posher lures.!

Re: Spinning in Debden
Only just seen this thread. Last summer I was chatting to the lad who clears the weed from the fishing lake next to the river and he showed me pictures on his phone of pike he'd had from near the middle bridge, all on small spinners. Biggest fish was about 7 or 8 pounds. In March this year there were 2 Polish chaps chucking spinners off the David Lloyd bridge but they weren't having any luck. "We want pike" was all they could say, so I sent them somewhere that's never held fish but has lots of snags...
