Britford again!

Post by Catfish.017 »

Inspired by Stour Otters excellent photograph following Chubmans post I was moved to dust off my watercolour box and make a rapid sketch after re jigging the composition and applying quite a bit of artistic licence!

Beautiful watercolour Catfish. It's a wonderful place that I've been to recce but not actually fished yet.

Lovely.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

I think even John Constable would stand back in admiration sir.

Yes Chubman I might well travel down there for a couple of days in the winter. River fishing has always been a cold weather pursuit for me, in summer I am a man of the ponds. I don't know if the paints will travel with me, I find a good 'plein air' painting quite elusive for me. So many problems to overcome. Of course being an angler I'm used to the nettles, briars, stinging insects etc. The weather in all its moods gives the artist his most inspirational subjects but so often the image is fleeting, the light changes and it's gone. So I tend to gather reference material and work back in the 'studio' ( my garage!) trying to capture the feeling I experienced 'on site' as it were.
