Stanobs in the Harrow Road Kensal Green

Post by Delboy »

What a great tackle shop used it when I was a teenager, sold me some rods on tick.
Stan was miserable as sin, Nobby who looked after the Tropicle fish as well as the Tackle shop was a great bloke.
Shop long gone but don't know when.

Don't think I ever went in there and not see Stan or Nobby without a pie in there face. The last time I saw Stan
was in St Mary's Hospital where he was visiting Nobby, just before Nobby passed away. Stan only seemed to smile
when you handed your money over. Real old style shop that looked antiquated compared to today's supermarket
style shops, but it was not often he didn't have what you asked for. The last rod I bought from him was a B & W
Hexagraph 1 3/8lb tc.

Only visited the shop once, drove down from Bletchley on the recommendation of a friend, around 1987, bought 3 Fibatube 11' carp blanks with cork handles, mentioned I was interested in Milbro Ghillie spinning rods, the assistant went upstairs then came down with an unused Ghillie F76-2 made in June 1967!!!!! What a result!!!!
