Izaak Walton

On this day 330 years ago Izaak Walton departed from this very earth.

A toast tonight is called for gentlemen.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

A 'Chichester' will be raised this evening.

(That's what we refer to as 'a small port' in the AC household)
"Beside the water I discovered (or maybe rediscovered) the quiet. The sort of quiet that allows one to be woven into the tapestry of nature instead of merely standing next to it." Estaban.

May he rest in peace. :Hat:
The coiled line travels from the reel, it brings up at last, the hook goes home, and then begins the test of skill. "BB"

And another snippet about I.W. for those in the South-East. Izaak Walton was married to Rachel Floud at St Mildred's Church, Canterbury, on the 27th December 1626.

The church backs on to the River Stour, which Walton certainly knew - he refers to the large Forditch [Fordwich] trout to be found therein - now thought to be sea-trout.

Not a fish was visible that first time I visited Beechmere; an utter
stillness brooded over the place and I felt the strange and sinister atmosphere which, so the story goes,
has been the cause of several suicides.’
