Roach spawning day tomorrow on the Avon!
Keep your fingers crossed for the red fins tomorrow, something like five out of the last seven years have seen the roach start spawning on the 25th April.

The Perch in the Thames are also about to spawn, which is a bit late for them. I suspect all the cold weather has put them back.
Only yesterday I saw a chap spinning for perch on a nearby lake. Whilst I was watching he caught a perch and as he pulled it out I actually jettisoned it's spawn in shock.

A great project. Have been fishing their Charity matches since their inception A look at the enthusiasm of the the roach to spawn is quite formidable! I may pop down to watch if Budgie is about!

River reports suggest they're running about a week late this year. Weed growth also subdued. Need a steadily rising temperature now according to the project lads. Keep your eye on the weather.

All the other river boards should follow there efforts.looked great in the video, not many chances to watch roach spawning in a lifetime.
Don’t cast doubt,cast out.

And people wonder why we had a close season.Santiago wrote:The Perch in the Thames are also about to spawn, which is a bit late for them. I suspect all the cold weather has put them back.

Yes! If you follow the link to the Facebook page or search Avon Roach Project on the Internet you will see some phenomenal photos of three pound Avon roaching spawning on the projects boards. They are staggered at the increase in roach spawning numbers compared to previous years, suggesting that the roach are now on their way to creating a foothold again as a direct result of their great work.
