Shaun,

It's nice to hear the banks are quite near you. Most of the section I fish you see people few and far between although some sections are very heavily fished. I am always staggered that people would want to fish a hole in the ground when they can be fishing somewhere with so much variety and beauty. I am not knocking people who do this but to me fishing a river will always be special.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

The rivers are amongst the oldest venues on this planet and what I particularly like about the 'Mighty Trent' is that it is powerful enough to flow uphill. One of the few rivers that flows up the country rather than down it.

Having said that I do love the tiny intimate rivers too, but as you rightly say the rivers offer so much variety, how could one ever get bored of them or indeed start to work out what actually lives in a large river like the Trent. Thankfully it is big enough to keep throwing uncaught surprises up.

I've always wanted to fish the trent but it's too far for me to travel really. The severn at atcham is 50 miles and then there is the wye closer still, so I mainly fish those two.

The Wye Barbel I find are a longer leaner fish than the severn ones.

God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.

A very nice long barbel, even if it was a bit lean :Thumb:

Lovely looking fish Shaun, I've still to venture onto the middle Trent it's closer for me to get to the tidal so I usually head downstream of Dunham bridge
