Valuable Dust Wrappers

A Venables classic, which has a DW that is probably worth more than the book these days...

The other example of this phenomenon is “No Need to Lie” by Dick Walker.

Not giveaways, I imagine, what sort of prices?

* Slightly rhetorical question, as it must depend on the scarcity and value of the book, surely?

These are the 2 in question and are the reel deal. I have copied dust wrappers before but it has to be done in a couple of pieces. Back , front and spine usually. But when they are appropriately glued together they look great and certainly enhance the "naked" book.

Sadly, a previous "Mrs Old Man River" had a habit of removing dust jackets and throwing them away. One day I came home from work and my small collection of angling literature had been abused and denuded. I was not happy .
She said they looked better without in the book case.
They were not valuable then, in fact most would not raise an eyebrow. I would not have considered doing that to anybodys collection, for her it was a case of , well, I could not say why, suffice to say later , with other considerations in mind also, we parted company.

Now I have a decent and growing collection of angling literature and even more, in fact too much vintage tackle, again, not valuable, but everything has a memory attached, and SWMBO has the same feelings on my behalf, so everything is safe !

I use these to protect my books. I hold a stock of most sizes and won’t start reading a new book till it’s covered, they really are the trick.

I use sheet polythene, it comes on a roll that you cut to size. If you look closely at the picture of the 2 books you can just make it out.

I remember as a child I received a lot of books for birthdays and Christmas, some of which I still have. The first thing I did was to remove the dust jacket and throw it away. Oops.

I think that when most chaps were given a fishing book in the ‘classic’ era (to us) No need to lie etc , confessions of a Carp Fishermen they had no thought ( or their authors! ) that nowadays their book would become highly desirable and depending on condition extremely valuable with the DJ particularly in fine condition the holy grail. They probably just put it down by a cuppa or something stronger, cigs or a pipe on the go with the inevitable marks , so getting a ‘fine’ copy of a sought after book has got increasingly difficult.
Tight lines & good reading
