Angling Times no 1

I just spent the evening with a dear friend talking all things fishey when he told me he had a copy of the 1st ever angling times which he very kindly let me browse :)

Wow! That is in truly amazing condition.

I bet it was fascinating reading. What was the gist of the article on banning fixed spool reels on a certain venue?

I was extremely worried about handling it to be honest and only read the front cover in detail and had a quick flick through I winced every time I turned a page :read:
I loved the catfish story on the cover landed on such light tackle

I think The Angling Times produced a reproduction of their first edition a few years back on some significant anniversary. 50th or 60th ?
Could it be one of these?

I found out this morning from Mr RBT that it was the Meadway that the perch were released into

I'm not sure Pete but that would explain the great condition but my friend is under the impression it's an original

I did have the reproduced version at one time but I think it must have gone the same way as so many of my magazines, to the tip.
Can't remember if it had anything on it to identify it as a reproduction but I don't think so.

I have a reproduced version. It has "40th birthday souvenir edition" printed at the top of each page.
