Modern Specimen Hunting - Jim Gibbinson.

Post by Tonytoned »

Hello Everyone :Hat:

Here's my latest acquisition Modern Specimen Hunting by Jim Gibbinson. I'm looking forward to reading this one. I have already read a few pages on the chapter about carp. He was entertainingly talking about Mitchell 410's, 300s and ABU Cardinal 55's. Very interesting.

This would have been the era for me being more serious about my carp fishing 1983 -86.

I have this book and devoured it when it first came out . Jim was a very specialist thoughtful angler and very dedicat3d I reckon . Good memories and I must look it out and re read it .
Mind you I never followed the high protein bait craze preferring to stay in the traditional mode .
Simple a bit like me

I recently read that Jim G reckoned goldfish were the best live baits for pike fishing! It was referred to by David Profumo in his piece in this weeks Country Life.

Sadly they are one of the biggest spreaders of disease, the ornamental trade is rife with it.

I still have my original copy I purchased back in 1983. I would have been 20 years old. The book has fared better than me during the last 36 years.
