Roger Wyndham Barnes - Thames Fisherman, Boatman & River Warden.

http://www.thethamesexperience.co.uk/

An excellent day out on the river by Thames fishing and boat master and GSC member Roger Wyndham Barnes.

Although the day I went with Jon Berry we blanked!

I have heard through a mutual friend that Roger is not in the best of health at present. All those who know him or have had the privilege of spending a day afloat with the master will want to wish him well.

Sad to hear today that Roger passed away earlier this week. His GSC name was Styx.
Roger was the last Thames Professional, He was an angling guide based at the Compleat Angler hotel at Marlow. He was also a Thames river warden and first rate blues singer and harmonica player.

RIP :Hat:

See him here with John Bailey.

And so dies a long breed of professional Thames boatmen, a real loss.

He was also an RMC Bailiff. A great loss.

To few men are given the role of "end of an era." Rest well, Sir.

His funeral is on Tuesday 12th. Is anyone else attending?
A very nice tribute to him http://1000fish.wordpress.com/2014/07/29/old-man-river/
