Traditional-style rod holdall

Post by Riparian »

The time has come. The ancient battered rod holdall that I inherited from my father many years ago is about to give up and head for the great tackle shop in the sky. Searching the web, I can find only the monstrous multi-made-up rod things that are sold to the modern carp angler, some of which probably need their own motor to propel them along the bank. I simply need a holdall to carry a couple of rods in their bags, along with bank sticks and a landing net handle. I can see that one enterprising forum member made his own but those are skill-sets I do not have.

So are such traditional holdalls still made and sold by anyone? If so, I would much appreciate a nod in the right direction.

Get around the boot fairs you will find one if you keep looking. :Thumb:

So I have to go to the boot sales instead of going fishing...?

Seriously, a useful suggestion, thanks! My wife will welcome it, too.

Redditch or Romsey tackle fairs are on the horizon. Always a few to be had there.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

Quite often my wife brings back more than I do, good luck I am sure you will find an Efgeeco, Stephens or similar.. and make sure you treat the wife. :Thumb:

A Sunday morning with me would be a treat in itself.

I've not been to those tackle fairs, so I'll look them up, thanks. I see this turning into a quest.

They also come up on the bay of evil occasionally.

I managed to get a Stephens of Birmingham one for a fiver!

That's where several of my cane rods came from, before it went a bit horrible. I'll take a look, thanks.

Riparian,

If you read any of my posts you will gather that I frequently visit auction rooms and purchase job lots, one of the last occasions the lot included a (I'm guessing) 197o's type rod holdhall.

I will photograph it tomorrow and send you a p.m., if it is any good to you I will get a price for the postage and you can have it for just that.

Regards,
John

John,

that's a really generous offer, and I've had a couple of other people contact me as well. What gentlemen these traditional anglers are! I look forward to getting your next message,

Best wishes,

Rob aka Riparian
