Crabtree net wanted - Dave Austin?

Post by Lucky Strike »

Hi

I'm looking for a Crabtree style net to complete my never ending collection.
I hear that Dave Austin is a good source, does anyone have his contact details
or recommend other manufacturers?

I'm looking for an allround size - Roach to barbel

Cheers LS

I wasn't aware that DA made round nets.

Paul Cook is instantly to mind as the maker of really high quality nets.

Jason White also offers round nets

I wasn't aware he made Walker style nets either!
:Chuckle:

I know he sold three sets of metal work for the Walker style nets, on eBay about two years ago. However, he does sell a net head made using a modern commercially available metal spreader block with arms made from split cane sourced from a stash of old rod blanks. The system is rigged in the same ways as a modern net in that it uses the natural resistance in the arms to hold them into the spreader block under tension. It's a very elegant solution in many ways and I suspect Walker would rather like it since it is lighter, easier to make and more practical than his own design. It just doesn't look quite as nice!

Sometimes the net heads are sold with handles, these are usually reclaimed from old split cane rods and have a cork handle.
