Re: Len Arbery's Traditional Landing Nets
A little more on the B. James cane armed landing net.
By request from Northern Nomad here are a couple of pictures of the lower end of an original cane handle, as fitted to Jack Hilton's net.
The ferrule is simply a piece of brass tube, .865 inch outside diameter x 1.25 inch long; this tube's wall thickness looks to be about .015 inch.
The hole in the end of the cane is simply plugged with a piece of oak, turned to size and glued in, slightly sub-flush.
Hope this is of interest Neil?
Besties,
Len.

Re: Len Arbery's Traditional Landing Nets
Excellent info Len, once again many thanks.
I think my B James replica will be upgraded in a few days. It's got a wine cork bunged up it at the moment
For those who are wondering, I have been picking Len's brains on all things B. James netwise, and had some superb information given to me, as can be witnessed by what is on this thread plus a few discussions on other general net subjects and theories.
Once again, many thanks

Re: Len Arbery's Traditional Landing Nets
Just found this very nice picture of Gerry Berth-Jones' cane landing net.
The picture was taken by Gerry himself, somewhere around 1960 I'd think.
Besties,
Len.

Also have come across this one. It shows Steve Neck, together with the landing net I made for him, in which he landed this Redmire common.
Always nice to see the fruits of one's handiwork.

Oh, here's a 32lb mirror that was just landed in John's net, and a snap of her going in courtesy of Shaun Harrison. Still my PB carp.

Re: Len Arbery's Traditional Landing Nets
Thanks for the appreciation, S K, and seeing the net I made for John Carver is still 'doing the business' forty-years on gives me a sense of pride in a job well done.
Great pictures, and congratulations on your new PB, well done.
Besties,
Len.

Re: Len Arbery's Traditional Landing Nets
Just turned-up another great Alec Lewis period shot, from about 1960.
Plainly showing Alec's carp gear of the period, including his B. James cane landing net and Mk IV split-cane carp rod, and Mitchell 300.
I'd guess the likely venue is Cheshunt Reservoir.
Besties,
Len.
