Phil Arnott wrote: Sun Mar 19, 2017 1:29 pm I've just been up in the loft and amongst a collection of old tackle catalogues I found an Efgeeco catalogue. Does anyone know when Efgeeco ceased to exist?

The catalogue has 1906-1969 in bottom right which indicates that the company started in 1906 and the catalogue was probably printed in 1969.
Sundridge Tackle took them over under the guidance of Les Hammond.
Thanks Shaun - do you have any idea when this occurred and did the Efgeeco name disappear at this time?

Regards,

Phil
Sundridge kept the Frank Goddard and Co (Efgeeco) name running on a few items and re-released some of the old classic Packaseats etc but in a nasty red and black and very cheap import looking. I'm struggling to remember when it all happened. I left the shop in 2005 so certainly before then. Sundridge seemed to slowly disappear over the years with very little that the shops needed. The days when they were an essential company to deal with when they had the U.K. exclusive on Optonic bite alarms and Sylcast line (before there was such a choice as the customer has these days) was long gone and slowly they appeared to fizzle out.

Our old Efgeeco representative was a right character looking like he had parked his Spitfire plane on the car park, he was a war veteran called Jim. I can't bring his surname to mind right now but pretty certain it was Evans. (Fred J Taylor was the rep' in the South). Jim was a real gentleman, very polite but come what may he would not use a second page of his notebook when writing down our order. Once the first page was full he would turn the notebook upside down and then write between the lines!

This gained him loads more orders as we would keep adding items to try and get him to use a second page. the crafty old sod was probably doing this because of that and we never twigged. It was very easy and safe though to order from them in the early 80's as you knew you would easily sell what they had.

It does show though just how fragile business can be, from having product everyone wanted to suddenly having very little that anyone wanted.

You're correct it is 1908 I was reading it without my glasses.

Have recently picked up an Ogden Smiths Ltd catalogue. Undated but shows their address as 62 St James's Street, Piccadilly London SW1.
They were at this address from 1918 to 1955.

Does anyone have a Farlows catalogue of 1960's vintage featuring the parabolic fly rods made for Farlows by Pezon et Michel?

If so I'd be very grateful for some scans of the relevant pages.

Cheers
