I don't have one but I agree they are lovely compact reels. At some point I expect I'll acquire one as I think it would suit my light Avon rod well.

It sure would suit an Avon rod ,it has some paint loss but other than that just perfect they are quite difficult to find we acquired with in a job lot of reels .

I have two Mitchell 308s - my favourite fixed spool reel by a distance. I bought my first brand new in the box (which I still have) in 1965 in a tackle shop sale - they retailed at £5 / 12 / 6 at the time - in the sale it was £4 / 10/ 0. I use it with 5lb bs line. The second I bought around about 12 years ago - mint condition from a dealer for £38 I think and that is loaded with 3lb line. I have used both with a wide range of rods over the years including an ABU spinning rod on the Thames at Tadpole Bridge trying to catch a decent Perch. Result a 17lb Pike took my No. 1 Mepps Silver and Blue Spot spinner - thanks to Wagtail for netting services on the day.

How interesting, it wasnt a cheap reel then in its day ...I am not sure how old my reel is but the serial number is 106951.

I have a little 308 Prince reel but to be honest I have not used it for ages. It is tight but smooth in use but the main thing I like about mine is the wonderful click noise the ratchet makes, funny what turns you on isn't it.
