System Two Fly Reel
My very ancient(I have had it for 10 years and the person who gave it to me used it for 15 years) System Two fly reel malfunctioned last night. The "brake lining" on the check fell off so the reel now "freewheels" if you know what I mean. I have dismantled it and have identified that I need to replace the "brake lining". Can anyone advise me what material to use and how to attach it to the check rim. I was thinking a small piece of stiff leather? Your expertise would be welcome.

My stiff leather "brake lining" did not work! Have any of you reel buffs got any ideas. For the time being I have transferred the fly line to a good old Rimfly.

Re: System Two Fly Reel
I have turned off the ratchet/brake on all of my fly reels because I don't like the noise of a ratchet or the lack of finesse with the brakes. I put thick grease on the spindle instead. It's silent and is enough to prevent overruns.
