Speedia been through the wars

Post by Banksy »

My regular fishing mate is not into traditional gear, so gave me this battered old Speedia he'd unearthed during a recent clearout.

The spool was virtually seized after years of not being used, but after a good clean and lubrication, it is running like a good 'un, spins for more than two minutes and has very low start-up inertia.

But as seen, part of the reel foot has broken off. As this is an integral part of the backplate, is it possible to do anything to fix it?
Or will it be ok to use as it is?

It will probably be ok as it is but you can repair them by cutting the two ends off and then hollow the centre piece out a bit and fit a new foot on to it with screws.
I made a new foot for one from an old Mitchell 300 but I dare say almost any old reel foot could be adapted to fit..

Nice gift by the way.. :Thumb:
